Water area

   The water reservoir area is 685.8 thousand hectares or 0.4% of the total area. Rivers and streams accounted for 223.8 thousand hectares or 32.6%, lakes and ponds for 446.3 thousand hectares or 65.1%, streams, springs, wells and brook for 13.2 thousand hectares or 1.9%, and snow and glaciers for 2.5 thousand hectares or 0.4%. In Zavkhan and Umnugovi aimags, the size of the water area has changed in the classification and has been transferred to the state special needs area. / Table 1 /
